Air Compressor vs. Air Conditioner Compressor

The responsibility of an air compressor is to convert power into compressed air. It compresses gas or air by increasing the pressure and decreasing the surface area. Air compressors are used every day in different applications. It’s used in many different industries for several different purposes. There are so many types and models of air compressors taking over the market now that it’s kind of tough to know about them all.

Air conditioners are commonly used by everyone nowadays as a primary source of cooling the atmosphere. An air conditioner is made up of many different things, but, an evaporator, a condenser, and a compressor are the most important components of an air conditioner. The compressor in an air conditioner is in charge of converting cool gas to hot gas at high pressure, which moves on to condense to a lower temperature.

Although the compressors used in air conditioners have the same mechanism as the normal compressors, there are some major differences between an air compressor and an air conditioner compressor.

Air compressors are independent

Normal air compressors that are used for compressing air and gases are independent. This means these air compressors can be bought in different types, fixed or portable. They can compress air and further supply it in a different situation when needed. These compressors aren’t linked or attached to any machine or hard-load devices, although machines do depend on air compressors for compressed air.

The air conditioner compressors, on the other hand, are found in air conditioners. There are two different types, single-stage compressor, and double stage compressor. If the air conditioner compressor is removed from the air conditioner, then the cooling process will not take place. The whole cooling cycle will be interrupted.

Different functions

The main responsibility of the air compressor is to simply compress the air.

The air conditioner compressor is responsible for compressing air at high pressure, converting the cool gas to hot gas, and then transferring it to the condenser so that it condenses and further evaporates. The air conditioner begins a whole cooling cycle that takes place to cool the atmosphere. The air conditioner compressor regulates and circulates the cool air. This whole process is repeated.

Different capacities

The capacity of the air compressor in the air conditioner determines how efficiently the air conditioner will be cooling the atmosphere. It determines the capacity of the cooling element in the air conditioner. Whereas the capacity of an air compressor doesn’t determine the capacity of the equipment or machine it is supplying compressed air to.

Different relations

An air conditioner compressor is related to other components in the cooling cycle such as the evaporator and the condenser. They all need to work properly as the whole cycle depends on the efficiency of each component. An air compressor, on the other hand, can break down and yet another standby compressor can be used to compress air. There is no dependency in the case of air compressors.
