Choosing Wall Material and Studs
Drywall alone won’t hold a fifty-pound compressor. The pump cycle, and drywall won’t stop all that force. You need to go into the stud behind your drywall.

Always check behind before drilling. Electrical wiring and plumbing often run through studs. You don’t want to cut a pipe or disconnect a wire by drilling blindly.

Better to take some more time than have sparks fly. Create pilot holes. The hole in the stud should be just big enough for the lag bolt, but not so large that the wood split when you turn it.
Use a drill and create pilot holes that is slightly smaller than the diameter of your lag bolts. Drill pilot holes into the studs that are slightly smaller than the diameter of your lag bolts. Insert the lag bolt by hand, then snug it down using a socket wrench.
Don’t crank on the bolts. Snug them down until the bracket push hard against the stud but don’t crush the wood fibers with the bolt. When you crush the wood it lose its grip and won’t hold.
A firm hand will do just fine. You aren’t trying to get maximum clamp force. Just a good hold.
Installing and Leveling the Tank
