Curtis Air Compressor Problems

1) Not Operating

The Curtis air compressor’s inability to operate is the biggest problem. However, there are various reasons behind this issue. First of all, it might happen due to the absence of electricity or power. If that’s the case, the users are suggested to hit the reset button on the air compressor. It will optimize the connection and make sure the power connection is streamlined.

Secondly, the air compressor won’t operate due to the low oil levels. For this purpose, the users need to check the oil levels in the compressor and make sure it’s up to the minimum scale. In case the oil is already filled sufficiently, you can try replacing the oil since saturated and dirty oil can lead to this issue. In addition, the users need to use the reliable oil brand.

Thirdly, if the air compressor is not operating, it’s likely that the pressure switch isn’t making contact. For this purpose, you need to check the manual and check the pressure switch adjustment. Lastly, you could check the cut-in pressure. This is because the air compressor won’t operate if the pressure is below the cut-in pressure value. So, replace the pressure switch with low cut-in pressure.

2) Excessive Noise

There is already enough noise pollution, and nobody wants to hurt their ears with the excessive noise of the air compressor. However, excessive noise is a common issue with Curtis air compressors. To begin with, it happens due to loose components, such as flywheel, pulley, clamps, or belts. In this case, you can simply fix this issue by tightening up the loose components.

Secondly, if there is a lack of oil in the crankcase, it can lead to excessive noise. If that’s the case, the users will need to check the oil levels and make sure it’s up to the right level. Also, it’s best to check for the damages and cracks in the bearings as it can lead to oil leaks. Thirdly, the loose floor mounting can result in this issue. In this case, you can simply tighten up the bolts, and you will be good to go.

In addition, the defects in the crankcase will lead to excessive noise. For this purpose, the users will need to get in touch with the technician. The technician can either repair the crankcase or replace it. Last but not least, the excessive endplay in the crank will lead to such issues. For fixing this issue, the users need to shim or adjust the endplay.

3) Knocking Sounds During Compressor Loading

For the most part, it happens due to the malfunctioned rod bearings, and it can be solved by replacing the rod altogether. However, if this doesn’t fix the knocking sound, you need to check the pin bearings and pins in the wrist. Again, it’s fixable by replacing the rod.

4) Milky Oil Texture

If the Curtis air compressor has started excreting milky oil texture in the oil reservoir, you will need to check the water. This is because if water starts entering into the oil reservoir, it can lead to a milky texture. In this case, the users will need to check the air intake of the pipe. In addition, the air intake should be set to lower humidity settings.

5) Excessive Wear & Tear of Belt
